Roads and Rails Museum n Frederick, Maryland

Roads and Rails Museum

The Roads and Rails Museum is a great place to take your kids on all types of days. It is an indoor activity located in Frederick Maryland so rain will not be a deterrent. The Roads and Rails Museum has miniature world model train displays. The train displays I grew up with were all look with almost zero interaction. Roads and Rails is highly interactive for the kids. There is a barrier around the display, as can be expected, but there are push buttons all around the display. While some buttons start trains others start cars in the miniature cities, a volcano, circus, and so on.

Watch out for the speeding train!
My son is 3 years old and we can easily spend 1.5 to 2 hours walking around and around the display. Once you pay your admission you can go through the museum as long as your child desires. The pass is good for a day so if you wanted you could leave and come back to continue the adventure. For shorter children they provide a few step stools. You can carry it around or as my son does, he carries it around.

Thomas the Tank Engine
If your son or daughter likes Thomas the Tank Engine there is a small display to the right after you enter the main display (on the way to the bathroom). Don't miss out on seeing a model Thomas train that your child can start at the push of a button.

The Roads and Rails Museum is located at 200 N. East St. Frederick, MD 21701 and as of this posting the admission rates are:
Adults: $7
Kids 3-11: $4
Kids under 3: Free

For more information see them at http://www.roadsnrails.com/.

Hope to run into you there!

Fun outings with your children - Frederick County and Central Maryland

I am a working father with two young children so my time with our kids is limited on the weekdays to dinner and bedtime. I dedicate time on the weekends to engage with my kids both inside and outside of our home.  The activities in this blog are centered around central Maryland, specifically Frederick County Maryland. If you live in the area I hope you can use the activities in this blog. If you live outside of central Maryland I hope this blog can provide ideas for local activities to look for in your area. I post activities that I have engaged in with my kids verses an exhaustive list of all possible activities.

Enjoy!
